Case List Strategy

Be sure to review all categories on each summary sheet, not only those you have applied. This is especially relevant for the office case list, where it may have been tempting to avoid certain primary care categories. Keep in mind that every category is fair game on the test. Our Oral Exam FAQs provide a valuable resource, offering questions similar to those frequently asked in each category to support your preparation.

Thanksgiving Fun Facts

1. Thanksgiving Wasn’t Always in November

While we now celebrate Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November, it wasn’t always this way. In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday, but it wasn’t fixed on a specific day. It wasn’t until 1941 that Congress established the fourth Thursday of November as the official date.

2. The First Thanksgiving Feast Wasn’t a Traditional Meal

The original Thanksgiving feast in 1621 likely included seafood like lobster, mussels, and eel, as well as venison, wild fowl, and grains. There’s no record of turkey, potatoes, or pumpkin pie, which are now staples of the holiday.

3. The First Presidential Turkey Pardon Wasn’t Formalized Until 1989

While various presidents received turkeys as gifts over the years, it wasn’t until 1989 that President George H.W. Bush officially started the tradition of "pardoning" the turkey. Since then, each president has ceremonially spared one or two turkeys every Thanksgiving.
